Update (August 23): A spokesperson told me that “Microsoft has gone ahead and updated its release notes to include: ‘At this time Widget notifications cannot be turned off. Microsoft is constantly listening and learning and welcomes customer feedback that helps shape Windows.’” Microsoft is rolling out the notifications via an update to the Windows Web Experience Pack. This pack is one of a handful of different ways that Microsoft officials said they will use to deliver updated features to Windows 11....

Microsoft also is updating the interface of Phone Link to look and feel more like Windows 11. And officials are committing to adding more unspecified cross-device experiences to Phone Link over time. Microsoft launched Your Phone three years ago. The app allows people to access photos, texts and apps from their phones on their PCs. Your Phone has worked most fully with Samsung devices. It also supports Microsoft’s own Surface Duo dual-screen Android device....

Motorola today announced that it will start a global roll out of the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Moto Z and the Moto Z Force from this week. This also includes the Moto Z Droid and the Z Force DROID edition sold by Verizon in the United States. The Big Red carrier has also posted the changelog of the update over on its website. Besides bringing new Nougat features like split-view multitasking, redesigned notification shade, built-in data saver, quick reply, and more, the Nougat update will also make the Moto Z and Z Force Daydream compatible....

Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security by the belief that creating a longer, more complex, harder-to-guess password will somehow make you safer online. You can create a password that is so long and complex it takes you five minutes to type, and it will do nothing to protect you if the service where you use that password stores it improperly and then has their server breached. Thanks to some major leaks over the last couple of weeks, we know now almost everything about the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P which are due to be unveiled tomorrow. Now, Android Police has revealed some key information about the availability of the new Nexus devices. According to their sources, Google will only be selling the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P online this year. This means that the handset will not be available for purchase through Best Buy or other carrier stores in the United States....

We are familiar with the Nokia X as a series of leaks have hinted at the specs and several recent photos claim to show the external hardware design of the phone. Rumored specs are decidedly entry-level, including a 4-inch WVGA display, a 1 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, a 5-megapixel camera and a 1,500 mAh battery. There are people out there who go nuts if they don’t have the latest and greatest version of something. Whether it be a car or a version of an operating system, if it isn’t the newest, then it’s garbage. Samsung’s Galaxy Note II (which I happily own), runs an “old” version of Android: 4.1 Jelly Bean. Now many have suggested that as soon as the Android 4.2 powered Galaxy S4 would hit the market, the Note II would get it soon after since it too is considered a “flagship” device....

The CyanogenMod team today announced the release of the official CM13 nightlies based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow for a handful of devices. Being the first official build of CyanogenMod 13 on Marshmallow, the ROM lacks most of the advanced features it is usually known for. However, it is just a matter of time before the team ports them to Marshmallow and introduces some new ones as well. At the LG G4 launch event in India on Friday, the company’s India head revealed that it is looking to double its market share in the country by the end of this year. LG currently has 5 percent of the market share in India, with Samsung being the leader in one of the fastest growing smartphone markets of the world. The company expects to sell 100,000 units of its flagship handset — the LG G4 — in the country by the end of this year....

Microsoft has been analyzing work patterns among its employees who are working from home and what they’re experiencing with more flexible hours. One indicator of change is that when the pandemic began, meetings on Microsoft Teams were happening more frequently after 5pm, most often between 6pm and 8pm at night, according to Microsoft, which recently published its second annual Work Trend Index report. The company’s data suggests that 9-to-5 is over and that meetings outside of previous norms are now common, creating a third peak of activity at night for some....

Motorola is kicking off 2014 with a bang by slashing the price on its flagship Moto X phone. The company announced today in a blog post that it has reduced the price on the Moto X to $399, permanently.The news comes from Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President of Product Management. He points to the company’s popular CyberMonday sale as evidence that customers want premium smartphones, but don’t want a contract or the lofty price tag that goes along with these high-end handset....

Google started rolling out the November security patch update for its Pixel and Nexus devices from earlier today.
