It is no secret that HTC is working with Google on a new Nexus tablet — dubbed the Nexus 9. The tablet will come with a 4:3 aspect ratio and will be among the first high-end Android devices to come with a 64-bit Nvidia Tegra K1 processor and Android L.

Now, in a press briefing, one of HTC’s executive revealed how important the Nexus 9 tablet is to the company. According to HTC’s president of North Asia, Jack Tong, the Nexus 9 tablet represents “HTC’s commitment” to return to the tablet market after three long years. Tong also revealed that the Nexus 9 will be available in Taiwan stores in the fourth quarter of this year, indicating that its that its official unveiling should be just around the corner. HTC’s last tablet was the 7-inch Flyer which — to put it politely — was a disaster. The company has since then stayed away from the market and focused solely on handsets. However, with its mobile division not exactly doing well, the company has been expanding into other markets and services to diversify itself.
