When the Moto Z Droid reviews went out last week, there were reports about the handset not getting monthly security updates. Motorola was quick to shoot down these rumors and said that the handsets will receive monthly security updates. Not convinced by their previous track record and their ambiguous statement, Ars Technica further prodded Motorola on this matter. The company has now clarified in a statement that while it will be providing security bulletin updates for its devices like the Moto Z Droid and Moto G4, it will not be rolling them out on a monthly basis. The company says that due to the amount of testing and approvals involved, it will instead bundle security updates with its scheduled Maintenance Release (MR) or OS software updates. While Motorola’s plight is understandable that rolling out a software update for a Verizon branded phone requires a lot of testing and approval, the company should ideally invest in resources to roll out monthly security updates for at least the unlocked versions of its handsets. What do you think? Will the lack of monthly security updates from Motorola for the Moto Z and Moto G4 deter you from buying the handsets?
