Motorola today unveiled its Moto G6 family of handsets comprising of the Moto G6 Play, Moto G6, and Moto G6 Plus. The handsets are running Oreo and come with 18:9 aspect ratio display at the front. All the three handsets feature a design that is reminiscent of the Moto X4 from last year.
The Moto G6 Play is the cheapest of the bunch, and to achieve its price point, the handset comes with a polymer glass at the back instead of Gorilla Glass. It features a 5.7-inch 720p+ 18:9 aspect ratio display, a Snapdragon 427 chip running at 1.4GHz, Adreno 308 GPU, 2/3GB RAM, and 16/32GB of storage. This is paired with a massive 4,000mAh battery which means the Moto G6 Play should easily last almost two days of heavy use.
There’s a 13MP f/2.0 shooter at the rear, with an 8MP selfie shooter at the front. Both cameras are accompanied by an LED flash. The fingerprint sensor is integrated into the moto logo at the rear of the device. It also features a 5.7-inch 18:9 aspect ratio display, though bumps its resolution to FHD+. Its powered by a Snapdragon 450 chip running at 1.8GHz, and it packs 3/4GB RAM and 32/64GB of storage. While the design of the handset is similar to that of the Moto G6 Play, there are a few changes. For starters, the fingerprint scanner is located on the bottom chin at the front. At the rear, there’s a dual-camera setup.
The primary 12MP f/1.8 shooter is paired with a 5MP RGB depth sensor used for capturing Portrait photos. At the front, there is an 8MP shooter sans an LED flash. Other specs include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, 3000mAh battery, USB-C connectivity, 15W fast charging, and more. It features a 5.9-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display, and its powered by a Snapdragon 630 chip running at 2.2GHz. Other notable specs include an Adreno 508 GPU, 4/6GB RAM, 64/128GB storage, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, and USB-C connectivity.
The 12MP f/1.7 shooter with Dual Autofocus Pixel at the rear is also paired with a 5MP depth sensor. It is capable of recording videos in 4K resolution. The front camera will vary depending on the region you buy the handset in. In the Asia Pacific region, there will be a 16MP camera with low-light mode, while other markets will get an 8MP shooter. The handset is powered by a 3200mAh battery with support for 15W TurboPower charging. The handset goes on sale in the United States for $249. It will be available immediately in Brazil followed by Mexico next week.
Alongside its Moto G series of handsets, Motorola also unveiled the Moto E5 and E5 Play. These budget handsets feature big beefy batteries for outstanding battery life. the E5 comes with a 5.7-inch MaxVision 720p+ display, a fingerprint scanner at the rear, Snapdragon 425, 2GB RAM, and 13MP/5MP cameras. It features a 4000mAh battery with 10W TuroPower charging. The Moto E5 Plus features a bigger 6-inch 720p+ display, 3GB RAM, Snapdragon 435 chip, and a gigantic 5,000mAh battery. The Moto E5 Plus is going to be only available int he United States. All the handsets announced today are running Android 8.0 Oreo, with some enhancements like Moto Display and Moto Camera thrown in. They will be launching in the coming months, except for the Moto G6 Plus which will be available immediately in Brazil.
