In addition to the Moto Z2 Force, Motorola also unveiled its new 360-degree camera Moto Mod. The mod was first unveiled by the company at an event in Ghana earlier this month. THe 360-degree Moto Mod will go on sale on August 10th — the same day as the Z2 Force goes on sale and will be available for $299.99. The Moto 360 Camera mod will be compatible with all Moto Z smartphones released over the last 2 years. It features two 13MP shooters at its front and rear that allows it to capture 360-degree spherical panoramic shots. It can also record 360-degree videos in 4K resolution at 24fps.
You can also use the Mod to take wide-angle 150-degree photos. Motorola is also bundling an editing app with the mod that will allow users to tweak their 360 content right on the phone itself. Once attached, the mod makes use of the native camera app on the handset itself. All photos and videos will also be backed up to Google Photos and work properly. This is a boon especially since the Moto Z2 Force comes with unlimited photo backup space on Google Photos. Down the line, Motorola will also roll out a software update that will allow the Camera mod to stream directly to Facebook and other social media sites. The modular approach that Motorola first debuted with its Moto Z series allows it to ensure that its Moto 360 Mod is compatible with all of its handsets released since then. The camera mod sits on top of the phone and is pretty compact for a 360-degree camera mod. In fact, it is very similar to Essential’s 360-camera mod which features two 12MP shooters.
