Remember that 6.44 inch smartphone Sony announced earlier this week? Imagine shrinking it down to something a bit more manageable. That’s pretty much what the Xperia i1 looks like, though there are some small differences. The i1 appears to have a dedicated camera button, and the headphone jack is on the top of the device instead of the side.
Stepping back a little, what exactly is the i1? It’s a phone that the internet has been calling “Honami” for the past few months. If the rumors are to be believed, this is the phone that will turn Sony around. It will be their flagship. Their hero device. The perfect example of Sony engineering.
What about the inside of the device? All that’s “known”, and I use that term loosely, is that it’s going to have a 20 megapixel camera. Whether or not said sensor delivers awesome photos is another story altogether, but let’s wait until the device is out to judge it. Everything else about the phone remains a mystery, though I’d be shocked if it didn’t ship with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 under the hood. When will we know more about the i1? This year, but no clue when this year.
