Microsoft registered a patent to control the PC with the mind
Although it sounds too futuristic, however, the tech giant Microsoft has registered a patent for a system that allows “changing the status of an application using neurological data.” This is possible thanks to the connection between the PC and an electroencephalographic reader that registers the electrical signals generated by the brain.
These electrical signals are recorded even if we do not do what we are thinking. For example, the neurological fingerprint of moving the arm or thinking about moving it is the same. The tech giant Microsoft compares it to a person who has an amputated arm but thinks about moving it. A similar mechanism is currently used by robotic arms.
Goodbye to peripherals: we can control the mouse and the keyboard with the mind
With this system, the tech giant Microsoft says that we can perform the same tasks we do when we use other peripherals. We can perform complex tasks such as running video editing programs or images, playing games, etc. Among the movements that can differentiate we find:-
Swipe or zoom Movements of the head or limbs Facial movements Complete body movements (lean, twist the body, jump) Interactions with the hardware (press keys or buttons).
To use it, it is necessary to calibrate it first to learn the neurological responses of each user and see the patterns that are generated when performing certain actions or movements. For example, the fact of walking can be associated with the way we think about how to walk, and transmit those movements to the character of a video game. This function, in addition to offering more convenience to most users, would also allow people with disabilities to make faster and easier use of the operating system without having to resort to other accessibility options that Windows 10 currently offers. At the moment this does not ceases to be a patent and a theoretical system, but it is possible that in the future we will see a system of this type integrated with virtual reality glasses, such as those of mixed reality of the tech giant Microsoft itself.
