The Dimensity 800, just like the Dimensity 1000 has an integrated 5G modem on the SoC. It is a single-chip solution manufactured on the 7nm process. MediaTek says that the first batch of devices with the Dimensity 800 chip will be available in India in the first half of 2020. The single-chip design ensures better battery efficiency as compared to having 2 separate chips. There’s also support for two carrier aggregation. The chip is designed to support both standalone and non-standalone sub-6GHz networks. Features like VoNR (Voice over New Radio) are also supported with the ability to use 5G networks for both voice and data. Here are some features of the MediaTek Dimensity 800 that are worth highlighting –
Fast Performance
The Dimensity 800 packs in 4 powerful Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2GHz which can handle all the intensive tasks, accompanied by 4 Cortex-A55 power-efficient cores.
Flagship-grade Graphics Performance
The same 4-core GPU from the Dimensity 1000 makes its way to the Dimensity 800 accompanied by MediaTek’s HyperEngine technology for a seamless gaming experience.
Improved AI Performance
MediaTek’s APU 3.0 (AI Processing Unit) is a quad-core chip that provides up to 2.4TOPs performance. This helps with faster scene detection and image optimization while using cameras.
Premium Camera Experience
Speaking about cameras, the ISP on the Dimensity 800 has support for up to 4 concurrent cameras with support for up to 64MP. Along with this, there’s AI autofocus, autoexposure, auto white balance, noise reduction, HDR, etc.
Higher Refresh Rates
The Dimensity 800 has support for displays with a refresh rate of up to 90Hz with a Full HD+ resolution which means even mid-range phones can now have smooth displays. The MediaTek Dimensity 800 is shaping out to be a good mid-range chipset with support for the sub-6GHz 5G network and it would be interesting to see which brands use this chipset and by when we’ll see smartphones with this chipset in the Indian market.
