Numerous Nexus 6P owners have been complaining about battery issues with their handset post updating to Android 7.0 Nougat. While the blame was initially put on the Nougat update, the issue persisted for many Nexus 6P owners even after they flashed back to Marshmallow.  The issue is that even when the phone has anywhere between 10% to 60% charge left, it shuts down automatically. The only way to reboot the phone is to put it back on charge and wait for a few minutes. The problem has also continued to remain in Android 7.1.1 Nougat, so it is likely that we are looking at a possible hardware failure here. With the Nexus 6P already being over a year old, many affected users cannot even claim for an in-service warranty or an RMA. The issue has already been reported on Google’s AOSP tracker, but the company is yet to acknowledge the issue. On the bright side, with so many other Nexus 6P owners complaining about the same issue, you now know for sure that your unit is not the only one that is affected. The problem affecting Nexus 6P owners does sound similar to what many iPhone 6s owners have been complaining about their handset. Apple acknowledged the issue in November and started a free battery replacement program for the same. The Cupertino company blamed a certain batch of batteries being exposed to ambient air for longer than usual for the problem.
