LG today kickstarted MWC 2018 by announcing the V30S ThinQ. An improved version of the LG V30 from last year, the V30S comes with new AI technologies and more storage and RAM.
In fact, LG will be launching the V30S in two variants. The regular variant will come with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, while the V30S+ will come with 6GB RAM and 256GB storage. There’s also a microSD card slot on both devices that supports cards of up to 2TB in case you want even more storage on your device. As for the AI-powered features, the V30S comes with ThinQ — LG’s AI which it first introduced at CES 2018. Vision AI is a part of ThinQ and contains three different AI modes for the camera: AI CAM, QLens, and Bright mode. AI CAM automatically analyzes the objects in a frame and switches to the appropriate shooting mode. It can switch between eight shooting categories including portrait, food, pet, city, and more. As for QLens, it automatically scans QR codes and provides relevant information related to the product along with details on where you can buy it for the lowest price online. It can also be used to find detailed information of landmarks, similar images of celebrities and food etc. Lastly, the Bright Mode makes use of pixel binning to output 4MP photos in extremely low-light scenarios which are brighter and more detailed than what the 16MP camera would otherwise capture. There’s also Voice AI commands which will allow one to control system settings and change app settings using Google Assistant. This is made possible thanks to Google working closely with LG to bring tighter Assistant integration into its devices. The LG V30S will be available in New Moroccan Blue and New Platinum Gray colors. The key hardware specs of the LG V30S remains the same as the original V30. This means you get a 6-inch 18:9 FullVision OLED display, a Snapdragon 835 chipset, 3300mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 and wireless charging, a 16/13MP dual-camera setup at the rear, and a 5MP selfie shooter. The handset runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. LG also says that its “certain phones” will receive a software update in the future bringing key AI features to them as well.
