LG has reconfirmed to Focus Taiwan that it indeed plans on releasing a second high-end flagship handset later this year to boost the sales of its handsets. While the report from Focus Taiwan only focuses on the Taiwanese market, it is likely that LG will release its second flagship handset of 2015 in other regions of the world as well. In Taiwan specifically, LG expects a 30% rise in its smartphone shipments by following its “dual-flagship” strategy. The company met with modest success by releasing the G Pro 2 and the G3 last year in Taiwan. The handsets have sold a combined of 220,000 units in Taiwan since their release last year, with the G3 selling in excess of 150,000 units. The numbers were revealed by Eason Shao, director of mobile business at LG’s Taiwan branch. He also revealed that the final specs of LG’s second flagship for 2015 is yet to be finalised. A high-level executive from LG had said earlier this year that LG plans on releasing a new flagship handset towards the second half of this year that will stand above the G series.
