That’s the hope behind MyShake, a new Android app from researchers at the University of California, Berkeley. MyShake effectively turns your smartphone into a pocket-sized seismometer. It runs in the background uses your phone’s built-in accelerometer to detect shaking, if it detects motion that’s consistent with the “vibrational profile” of a quake, it’ll submit data about that quake to Berkeley seismologists for analysis....

Nvidia today announced its latest revision to Shield, its Android TV-powered streaming box. The new Shield TV features a sleek and elegant design that is 40 percent smaller than its predecessor, and it now ships with a game controller as well as a remote. Nvidia is also expanding on its Geforce Now catalogue that will allow Geforce graphics card owners to stream games to their Nvidia Shield-powered TV from their PC....

In a statement, Nokia claims that Apple accepted in 2011 a license covering some patents of Finns, but did not want to negotiate the payment of other intellectual properties that are used in Apple products. There are 32 patents at stake, covering technologies such as “display, user interface, software, antenna, chipsets and video encoding”. Nokia says it has invested 115 billion euros in research and development over the past 20 years and has “tens of thousands of patents covering many important technologies used in smartphones, tablets, PCs and similar devices....

It won’t run on top of Android or offer a dual-boot option, but a small number of power users from the Xiaomi Forums in China can choose to put ndows 10 on this one device.
